Sagano Romantic Train

Anaoji Temple

It is said that nobleman Otomo no Komaro built Anaoji Temple, the 21st temple of the Kansai Kannon Pilgrimage. The Japanese garden on the temple grounds was created during the later part of the Muromachi Period (mid-14th to mid-16th century) and is one of the most famous Tamba gardens.(approx. 5 min. by car from Syoenso Hozugawatei)

Hozu-gawa River Boat Ride

This thrilling downriver ride along river rapids, stretching 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Kameoka to Arashiyama, is an exciting experience for any visitor to Kyoto.(approx. 20 min. by car from Syoenso Hozugawatei)

 

Kyoto Imperial Palace

Serving as the home of the emperor until the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the Imperial Palace (including the Omiya and Sento Imperial Palaces) covers a natural green area of 660,000 m2 and has become a national garden.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The current Kiyomizu-dera Temple is from the Edo Period (1600–1868), having been burned down and rebuilt countless times. The view of Kyoto City from “the stage of Kiyomizu” is very impressive.(approx. 40 min. by car from Syoenso Hozugawatei)

Rokuon-ji Temple Golden Pavilion

This structure was built by Yoshimitsu, the third Ashikaga shogun, and it serves as a symbol of Kyoto’s Kitayama culture. Because it was burned down once, the current incarnation is from 1955.(approx. 50 min. by car from Syoenso Hozugawatei)

 

Suzumushi-dera Temple

Although officially known as Kegonji Temple, this temple came to be called Suzumushi-dera Temple because of a box in the main hall filled with approximately 5,000 crickets (suzumushi in Japanese) trained to chirp for long periods of time.

Arashiyama

The Arashiyama area, where courtiers from Heian-kyo (Kyoto) came to play and assembled to recite poetry, possesses a unique elegance throughout the four seasons. Izumo Daijingu Shrine

Designated by the government as an important cultural property, Izumo Daijingu Shrine is a famous spot for matchmaking-related prayers.(approx. 20 min. by car from Syoenso Hozugawatei)
